Mr. Ronald Edward Lucas, 16
of 1675 Butler Island Road, Roseboro, died on Friday, November 16, 2012 at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton.

The funeral will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Lakewood High School with Rev. Glenn Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Roseboro.

Mr. Lucas was born on January 25, 1996 in Cumberland County to Stephan Wayne Lucas and Rebecca Ann Willard. He is preceded in death by: his paternal grandfather, Ronald Gene Lucas, Sr.; paternal grandmother, Judy McMillan Lucas; maternal grandmother, Amy Boykin; maternal great grandmother, Mary Willard; and his uncle, Ronald Gene Lucas, Jr. He was a member of Beaver Dam Fire Department and was a Sophomore at Lakewood High School.

He is survived by: his father and step-mother, Stephan Wayne and Melissa Lucas of the home; his mother, Rebecca Willard Lucas of Roseboro; his brother, Stephan Ray Lucas of the home; his paternal grandmother, Lola Lucas of Roseboro; his maternal grandfather, Denver Ray Willard of Roseboro; three aunts, Dora Autry, Tammy Mitchell and Tiffany Brown; two uncles, Derrick Willard and Matthew Smith; and numerous cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Lakewood High School, 245 Lakewood School Road, Salemburg, and other times at the home.

CLINTON

Mr. Ottis Ray Parker, 80
of 2740 Odom Road, Clinton, died on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Wood officiating. Burial will follow at the Parker Memorial Cemetery in Clinton.

Mr. Parker was born on February 3, 1932 in Sampson County to the late Paul Eugene and Beulah Honeycutt Parker. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Evelyn Parker and Anna Jane Sears; and one brother, Carlos Parker. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and worked as a T.V. Repairman for many years with Parker Brother's T.V.

He is survived by: one sister, Christine Byrd of Burlington; three brothers, Fulton Parker and wife, Edith of Eastover, Winford Parker and wife, Lila and Ernest Parker all of Clinton; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Milo J. Matthews, 100, of 1324 Huntley School Road, Roseboro, went peacefully to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, November 9, 2012 at her home with her children by her side.

The funeral was held on Monday, November 12, 2012, at 2:30PM at Freedom Baptist Church, 2099 Tyndall Bridge Road, Salemburg, with Rev. Sam Gore officiating.  Also speaking was Bryan Strickland, Jo Ann Herring and Nelson Crumpler.   Burial followed in the Matthews Family Cemetery, 1407 Huntley School Road in Roseboro. Mrs. Matthews was born on June 4, 1912 to the late Eddie Leroy and Ophelia Royal Jackson,  She is also preceded in death  by her husband, Laddie Haywood Matthews, a son, Lattie Earl Matthews, Sr., a daughter, Betty Lou Myers,  a granddaughter, Courtney Rae Grantham, and three brothers, Minton Jackson, Jasper Jackson, and Hinton Jackson.  She was a charter member of Freedom Baptist Church and a homemaker.  She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Virginia Matthews of Roseboro; two daughters, Peggy Matthews and husband, Jerry of Clinton; Glenda Grantham and husband, Ray of Roseboro; one son, Brewer Matthews and wife , Linda of Roseboro; eight grandchildren, Cindy Duber (Corey), Shelia Matthews, Earl Matthews, Jr. (Heather), Melanie Creeger (Doug), Tonya Hobbs (Tommy), Chris Matthews (Sandra), Danny Myers, Ken Grantham (Ashley) ; nine great-grandchildren, Erin Duber (fiancé  Aaron Lembke), Ryan and Ashton Kinnard, Cassidy and Tyer Hobbs, Courtney Matthews, Tiffany M. Mr. John Franklin "J.F." Strickland, 74
of 210 S. Main Street, Salemburg, died on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro.

The funeral will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Salemburg Baptist Church with Rev. John Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites.

Mr. Strickland was born on May 1, 1938 in Sampson County to the late Thomas Rufus and Madgree Naylor Strickland. He is preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, J.T. Naylor. He was a member of Coharie Masonic Lodge No. 339 and was a Barber at Salemburg Barber Shop.

He is survived by: his wife, Elsie Strickland of the home; one daughter, Marcella Bonner and husband, Jack of Salemburg; one step-daughter, Charmaine Johnson and husband, Hubert of Benson; two step-sons, Gary Naylor and Wayne Naylor both of Salemburg; his sister, Janet Pearson and husband, Ed of Salemburg; one granddaughter, eight step-grandchildren and 11 step-great grandchildren.

Mr. William Tate McLeod, 70
of 2210 Boren Brick Road, Roseboro, died on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

The funeral will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Pleasant Union Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Salemburg.

Mr. McLeod was born on June 13, 1942 in Sampson County to the late Joseph Wright and Mary Frances Williamson McLeod. He is preceded in death by: his parents; two sons, Steve McLeod and Joey Tate McLeod; two brothers, Jervis Faircloth and Murphy McLeod; and two sisters, Louise Williams and Rosie McLeod. He retired from Coca Cola after 27 years and was the owner and operator of McLeod's Auto Sales.

He is survived by: his wife, Jean Carter McLeod of the home; three daughters, Debbie Acker and husband, Jeff of Roseboro, Rita Fay McDonald and husband, Steve of Clinton, and Margie Greenlee and husband, Jim of San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and his special niece, Mannie Faye Williams.

Mr. Robert Wayne Robinson 11051 Old Mintz Hwy., died Wednesday, November 07, 2012 at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton, NC.

Mrs. Sadie Daniels Stocks, 79, of 1099 Payton Daniels Road, died Thursday, November 1, 2012, at Mary Gran Nursing Center. 

The funeral will be held 2 P.M., Sunday, November 4th, at Mt. Elam Baptist Church in Roseboro with the Reverend Randy Moore officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. 

Mrs. Stocks, born in Sampson County, was the daughter of the late Ivey Franklin Daniels and Gladys Jane Lockamy Daniels and was the widow of Lenwood Stocks.  She worked at Sampson Sewing Factory for 25 years and was a caretaker.  She was a member of Mt. Elam Baptist Church. 

She is survived by a daughter, Sabra Lynn Stocks Williams and husband Danny of Daytona Beach, FL; a granddaughter, Angela Williams Goodrich and husband Alton of Salemburg; a grandson, Haslin Scott Williams and wife Angela Barnes Williams of Salemburg; two great-grandchildren, Allen Goodrich and Sadie Elizabeth Williams; two sisters, Faye Daniels Williams and Joyce Daniels Harris, both of Salemburg; a brother, Sheral Daniels of Salemburg.

FAISON: 

Mr. Jack Denny Collins, 88, of 165 NC Hwy. 50 N. died Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at Carolina East/Quinn Hospice Center in Kenansville, NC. 

A Memorial Service will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, November 3rd, at Faison Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Tim and Kathy Beach-Verhey officiating.  An Interment Service with military honors will be held at 3 P.M., Saturday, November 3rd, at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton, NC. 

Jack was born in Lumberton, NC on September 18, 1924 to James Theria and Charity Graham Collins.  After graduating from Lumberton High School, he attended Pembroke Junior College before entering the army in 1943.  He was a member of the elite 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team, Headquarters 2nd Battalion.  Jack served in the European Theater during World War II, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.  He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star as a result of his service. 

After the end of the war, he received an honorable discharge from the Army and returned to North Carolina, where he attended UNC Chapel from 1946 to 1948.  He began working with Collins Transfer Company before moving on to operate several businesses, including Jack Collins Produce Company and Truck Brokerage, C-T Sales, Inc., and most recently Jack Collins Produce Company, Inc.  He was known by many in the produce community as “Honest Jack,” a title of which he was very proud. 

Jack was predeceased by his wife of over fifty years, Barbara Ann Collins, and a son, Robert Arthur Collins.  He is survived by a son, Jack Collins, Jr. and wife Sharon; a daughter, Susan Collins Mikitka and husband Nick Mikitka; grandchildren, B. J. Collins, Matt Collins, Jack Collins III, Conner Mikitka and Hunter Mikitka, and great-grandsons, Carson Collins and Cameron Collins.

Mrs. Mary Sue Myers McDaniel, 55, of 116 Colonial Dr. died at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington Sunday October 7, 2012. 

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 pm at Serenity Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Flowers officiating. Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery. 

Born on December 16, 1956 in Sampson County, Mrs. McDaniel was the daughter of Mary Frances Blackburn Myers and the late Preston Allen Myers. She was a member of the Serenity Baptist Church, the adult choir, and the Monday Night Ladies Group. She was a former member of the Sampson County Civitian Club and a cashier for eleven years with Ace Hardware and True Value Hardware.

 

She is survived by her husband, Billy McDaniel; one son, David Wayne McDaniel of Greenville; mother, Mary Frances Blackburn Myers of Clinton; siblings, Joyce M. Luna and husband, Bill of Rockford, IL, Robert “Robbie” Allen Myers and wife, Annie of Clinton, Patty M. Conner and husband, Alan of San Antonio, TX., and Lisa M. Hofmann and husband, Michael of Culpeper, VA., and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. William Carey Ayers, III,
 

22 of 2440 N. Salemburg Highway, Salemburg, died peacefully on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at his home after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer.

Mr. Ayers was born on April 2, 1990 in Cumberland County. He is preceded in death by his step-mother, Sherry Lynn Ayers; his paternal grandfather, William Carey Ayers; his maternal grandfather, Jessie Mac West; and his niece, Madison Skye Tew. He graduated from Cape Fear High School in 2008 and was a Color Guard Instructor.

Ms. Mamie Elizabeth “Libby” Crumpler, formerly of Sampson County, died Friday, August 17, 2012.

 A graveside service will be held 11AM Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Corinth Baptist Church, 991 Corinth Church Road, Roseboro, NC with Rev. Allen Hamm officiating.

 Ms. Crumpler was a native of Sampson  County and the daughter of the late William Stacy Crumpler, Sr. and Annie Laura Crumpler.   She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sabre Crumpler and Patsy C. Mitchell and a brother, William Stacy Crumpler, Jr.   

Mamie lives in the hearts of many at the Caswell Developmental Center in Kinston which was her home for more than fifty years.  She will be missed by those who loved her and immensely by her friend Kim Shivar.

Mr. Coombs, born in Sampson County, was the son of Maxine Humphrey Coombs and the late Joseph Mercer Coombs.  He was the service manager at Go Chevrolet in Clinton and also owned and operated Joshua Coombs Hog Farm. 

He is survived by a son, Joshua Coombs and wife Jessica of Turkey; his mother, Maxine Humphrey Coombs of Turkey; two sisters, Wanda Coombs Hinson and husband James of Turkey and Sonda Coombs Jaffe and husband Ira of Wilmington, NC; a brother, Steve Lewis Coombs and wife Judy of Faison; eight nieces and nephews; two great-nephews; two special friends, Betty Honeycutt and Kim Lawhorn; an unofficial brother, Douglas “Bud” Knowles, and many other friends.

 Mrs. Mary Emma Naylor Williams, 72 of 6652 Dunn Road, Roseboro, died on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Mary Gran Nursing Center in Clinton. 

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Jeff Bartlett and Rev. Paul Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow at the Williams-Spell Family Cemetery in Roseboro. 

Mrs. Williams was born on October 23, 1939 in Sampson County to the late Johnny Rosen and Gertrude Royal Naylor. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Johnny Clifton “J.C.” Williams; one son, James Williams; her great granddaughter, Madison Skye Tew; and four brothers, William “Bo” Naylor, Carson “Buddy” Naylor, R.V. Naylor and Bobby Naylor. Mary Emma was very much a classy southern lady. She was known for her very well kept appearance. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was always smiling. She treated everyone with love and compassion. She loved her family more than anything. She was a retired seamstress. 

She is survived by:  one son, Johnny Williams of Roseboro; three granddaughters, Jamie Lyn Tew and husband, John of Roseboro, Amy Williams of Salemburg and Tiffany Williams and husband, Eric of Wilmington; one grandson, John Williams of Autryville; five great grandchildren, Bryan Hatcher, Sara Tew, John Davis, Julian Edwards and Tyler Tew; three sisters, Ann Smith and husband, Larry of Roseboro, Doris Harris and husband, William and Vinnie Cannady and husband, Randy all of Clinton; one brother, Maxton “Pee Wee” Naylor of Clinton; and several special nieces and nephews.

Mr. Charles Kendall Tew, 61 of 968 Country Club Road, Salemburg, died on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton. 

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, August 13, 2012 at Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Salemburg. 

Mr. Tew was born on April 10, 1951 in Sampson County to Charles E. and Helen Holland Tew. He is preceded in death by his father; and his wife, Gail Mattocks Tew. He was a Supervisor in Quality Control with Lundy Packing Company. 

He is survived by:  his mother, Helen Holland Tew of Salemburg; his sister, Wanda Tew Holden and husband, Fulton of Salemburg; two nephews, Kyle Holden of Raleigh and Stephen Holden of Salemburg; and his loyal companion, Lady.

Mr. Mack Dixon Smith, 77 of 5604 Tyndall Bridge Road, Salemburg, died on Monday, August 6, 2012 at the home of his daughter. 

A private graveside service will be held at Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Allen West officiating. 

He was born on January 4, 1935 in Sampson County to the late Vander and Brilla Williams Smith. He is preceded in death by his parents; and two sons, Cary Smith and Rodney Smith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a retired supervisor with the N.C. Department of Transportation. 

He is survived by:  his wife, Dr. Betty J. Smith of the home; his daughter, Lana Smith VanStory of Fayetteville; one son, Bronzie Smith and wife, Darley of Salemburg; four grandchildren, Aiden Libero, Scarlett VanStory, Damien Zandiotis and Tigre Shook; two step-grandchildren, Ashley Melvin and Ciji Spell; six great grandchildren; four sisters, Phyllis Ring of Michigan, Joyce Jackson of Clinton, Betty Lou Holland of Salemburg and Annette Tew of Rocky Mount; and one brother, Charles Smith of Oak Island. 

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro.

, 913 Magnolia Lane died Tuesday 7/31/12 at Betsy Johnson Hospital.

Funeral services will be Sat. 8/4/12, 2pm at Jackson Grove Bible Church of God, Newton Grove,N.C. Interment in the church cemtery.

Survivors are 2 daughters-Eva King and Mary F. Tabron both of  Newton Grove, N.C. 7 sons-Alton McEachin-Enterprise,Ala., Albert McEachin-Richmond, N.C. Glenwood McLamb-Roseboro, N.C. Raleigh Hall Jr. and Bobby Hall
both of Clinton, N.C. James Hall-Brooklet, Ga.,Woodrow Hall-Albany, N.Y. 2 brothers-William H. McEachin and Lucious McEachin, both of Durham, N.C.  22 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren.
